Marsha Burris is an American author known for her historical fiction and non-fiction works. She focuses on women's experiences during challenging times, predominantly set during the Second World War. Her strong academic background in History influences her writing style and subject matter.

 

Her latest novel follows the riveting story of a young American nurse who travels from her hometown in Charlottesville, Virginia to the dreaming spires of Oxford in August 1939.

 

With a fresh university nursing degree in hand, Rachel eagerly sets sail to England carrying only a suitcase and the expectation of caring for her beloved aunt who suffered a debilitating stroke. Within a year of her arrival in Oxford, Rachel finds herself thrown into world events as she moves to London during the early days of the Blitz. As a volunteer with a First Aid post that provides emergency services to London's residents, Rachel observes first hand the nightmarish attacks that Hitler's Luftwaffe rains down upon British citizens.

As events sweep Rachel from a cozy cottage in Oxford to the horrors of the London Blitz, Rachel's skills are tested beyond her imagination. In the years that follow, Rachel learns that being afraid is not cowardice, and that showing up to help, in spite of that fear, is what matters. How will her extraordinary courage be tested, and how will it change her?
